Our Mission

Celebrate, Connect, & Contribute

Matthews Alive, Inc. is a 501(c)3, non-profit corporation managed by area volunteers. We work closely with the Town of Matthews to produce the Matthews Alive Festival each year.

Our primary purpose is to continue the 50+ year tradition in our town of producing an annual Labor Day festival where families can connect, relax, and enjoy all that our beautiful town has to offer.

Additionally, the festival also provides an opportunity for nonprofit groups to raise funds for their organization to benefit the community. To date, Matthews Alive has contributed more than $2.1 million dollars into our local community.

The Matthews Alive Festival blends tradition and growth, drawing visitors from across the Southeast, Midwest, and Carolina coastal states.

Our History

A Blend of Tradition and Growth

For over 50 years, the town of Matthews has proudly hosted a Labor Day Festival. What began as the "Stumptown Festival" evolved significantly in the 1990s when the non-profit Matthews Alive, Inc. formed, transforming it into the festival we know and love today.

Just as Matthews has grown, so has the festival. It now boasts three stages featuring national touring acts and tribute bands from across North America. Offerings have expanded beyond traditional handmade goods to include unique boutique items.

While offerings have expanded, we haven't forgotten the classics. You'll still find the familiar joy of cotton candy, carnival games, and the beloved parade that bring back your cherished childhood memories.
