Matthews, N.C. — The Board of Directors announce the 2022 Matthews Alive Festival will be held on Labor Day weekend. Scheduled for September 2-5, 2022, the 4-day festival is a staple event for Matthews, NC residents, and the greater Southeast. In 2019, an estimated 150,000 people attended the festival.
Matthews Alive was canceled for two years in a row. “I’m excited that we’re pulling things together for the 2022 festival. It’s been a long two years and I think the community is ready to have another Matthews Alive “, said Interim Board Chair and former Mayor Jim Taylor.
Matthews Alive raises funds for local non-profit groups and to benefit the greater Matthews community. Area non-profit groups apply for the opportunity to support the festival and work assignments for the duration of the festival. Hundreds of volunteers, work trash collection, ticketing, drink sales, parade production, game management, and more. More information can be found here.
This year’s event will feature live entertainment, food and drink, carnival games and rides, kid-friendly activities, and family fun for all ages. Live music begins with Gary Lowder & Smokin’ Hot and The Entertainers kicking off Beach Night on Friday, September 2nd. Saturday evening features Foreigner Tribute Band, Double Vision, and Bohemian Queen, a Queen Tribute Band, which will take the Main Stage on Sunday evening.
The festival theme for 2022 is “Labor (Day) of Love”. Parade entries are encouraged to decorate with the theme in mind, and self-made float entries that utilize the theme will be given entry fee refunds. Organizers will be recognizing and honoring local healthcare frontline workers within this year’s parade. Parade applications are open and the entry deadline is August 1st.
The Matthews Alive Board of Directors are also currently taking applications for Small Shops and Sponsors. Food vendors who applied for the 2021 festival will have priority for this year. If you are interested in inquiring about food vending, please fill out an inquiry form.
Board members and key volunteers are busy organizing details for the 2022 festival. Executive Director Lee Anne Moore shares, “We work all year long to produce a complex, coordinated event for the town of Matthews. If you are passionate about the community and would like to get involved, please reach out!” Moore added, “We know the community has missed out the past two years, and we can’t wait to see everyone’s smiling faces during this Labor (Day) of Love.”
